When your heat source is covered by furniture or clothes being dried, the warmth can’t disperse around the room and won’t be able to reach you. If you’re wanting to use your dryer less, we would recommend looking into using a clothing maiden (you can also buy heated ones which are low cost to run!)
Wearing thick socks/slippers will help more than you think
By keeping your feet warm by wearing thick cosy socks or slippers you aren’t needing to turn on the heating as much. Slipper/fluffy socks are great for keeping your feet warm during the cold winter months and you can buy them in different lengths so you can also wear them outdoors in the cold weather.
Layer clothes when staying at home
Layering clothes can be much more effective than wearing one heavy item of clothing. You can do this by using:
- T-shirts
- Wool or polyester garments
- Hoodies/Zip-up jackets
- Fleece clothing
- Oodie- wearable blanket meets oversized hoodie
Now is where the spending comes in, but luckily it will save you money in the mean time!
New boilers are more efficient!
If your boiler is old, maybe consider a newer energy-efficient upgrade. This is expensive to have installed but will save you a lot of money in the long run.

Make sure your home has adequate insulation because it can save you so much money on heating bills. The idea of paying tons of money upfront for insulation can be annoying, but the amount of money it will save on your heating bills makes it worth it!
